A short time later, Kyran was on the cavern floor. He glanced up at the silk strand still fastened to web hidden high overhead, and shuddered uneasily.
It had been a tortuous scramble down, one he was doing his best to forget. The âropeâ had been slippery, and the entire way, Kyran had feared losing his grasp and dropping to his death.
But it was over now, he reassured himself, and he was safe on solid ground once more. He commanded the spider down and watched enviously as it floated effortlessly down on the end of another silk thread.
The strength of those strands has to be incredible.
About to turn away, he was struck by an errant thought. He tugged thoughtfully at the silk strands. They could be useful⦠Reaching out with his mind, he probed the webbing with insight.
Spider silk is a valuable commodity and rare crafting resource, prized throughout the world for its high tensile strength, incredible lightness, and durability.
A useful item to have. At the very least, it would make a handy rope, if only one of last resort. Who knows when I will be stuck in a web again? he thought with a smile.
He ordered the spider to shoot out a few more web strands, which he cut off and packed away in his inventory. Searching for, and finding his dropped sword, he packed it away as well.
Only then, did he open the Spireâs message that had been flashing for attention ever since the battle with the spider.
Congratulations, Kyran Seversan, you have defeated an opponent of significantly more combat expertise than yourself, and have advanced to tier five in the Arts of War. As reward for your achievements, you have been granted twenty-six war stones.
So, he thought, chewing meditatively on the message, there are some benefits to being ambushed after all. He chuckled in amusement. Now that the ordeal was over, he could smile at the memory. But not for all the rewards in the Game would he ever chose to relieve that frightening experience again.
Turning full circle, he surveyed the cavern. It appeared empty. The oppressive sense he had felt earlier was gone. But he had to be sure. With the spider in tow, he set about exploring the cavern.
